In a blog post today Pinterest announced a new feature called Interests. This feature is only available to desktop users although Pinterest engineering did say they will be releasing a version for mobile users soon.
The blog post states:
Before today, all the billions of Pins on Pinterest were organized into just a handful of broad categories. So if you were browsing for ideas for your yard, you had to go somewhere like “Gardening” and sift through all the Pins. If you’ve collected lots of Pins that show climbing plants and wall ferns, your interests page might recommend vertical gardens for you to check out.
Users can navigate to their interests via the category menu in the upper left corner of their account. [see image]
I can’t say I’m too sure what the algorithm is behind the Interests tool. I do notice a lot of recent pins in my interests feed, so maybe the data mining for this tool was just turned on in the past few days. I have a fair amount of my favs like fitness tips, business reading and inspirational quotes. I have made a few Pinterest friends and I see one of them too! @wrapitgiftbag
